It’s time to grab your Gator gear and celebrate what makes the University of Houston-Downtown community special. Homecoming brings students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community members together for a week filled with school spirit, friendly competition, and plenty of opportunities to connect.
Homecoming week kicks off on Monday, October 5, with the UHD Homecoming Pep Rally, and every day brings a new celebration. Competition highlights include several club sports matches as well as several other opportunities for students to show off their unique talents and skills, such as the Talent Show & Greek Showcase and the Bayou’s Best Showcase.
This year’s Homecoming culminates in the combining of two beloved UHD traditions, with the Chili Cook-Off joining Tail-Gatoring on Saturday, October 10, for an even bigger day of food, fun, and camaraderie.
Tail-Gatoring brings student organizations, university departments, alumni groups, and campus partners together to grill, decorate, and compete for bragging rights.
The Homecoming Chili Cook-Off invites teams to bring their best recipe and compete for the title of campus chili champion. Whether you’re a seasoned chili expert or trying your hand at the competition for the first time, the Cook-Off is a chance to rally your team and get involved. Tasting—and voting—is open to the public, so even if you opt out of competing this time around, don’t miss out on this fun opportunity to try new food and socialize!
At its heart, beyond the food, festivities, and competitions, Homecoming is about creating connections that last beyond the celebration. This tradition gives current students an opportunity to connect with each other, alumni, and the broader UHD community. It also brings past, present, and future Gators together around the shared pride that connects our university community.
So gather your friends, rally your organization, and bring your Gator spirit. Whether you’re cheering at the Pep Rally, taking some time to relax at Goat Yoga, or mingling at a party or mixer, there’s a place for you at Homecoming.
