Transfer Student Orientation

Congratulations! Welcome to the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD)! Your transition to UHD will consist of an advising session and a New Student Orientation experience this summer.

New Student Orientation is an interactive, on-campus event designed to assist with your transition to UHD. You are highly encouraged to attend New Student Orientation so you can receive the information you need to be successful.

To receive advising and register for classes at Orientation, make sure UHD has received all your official transcripts. For more details, visit the Official Transcript Submission website.

At New Student Orientation, all incoming students will complete academic advising and class registration.

Do I Have to Attend New Student Orientation?

Transfer students who have been to a community college or university are strongly encouraged to take part in New Student Orientation, however, it is not required. Please note: In-person and Virtual orientation options are available.

Are guests able to attend the orientation?

Due to the nature of this program, guests are discouraged from attending. A guest program will not be offered, and there will be times when participants and their guests may be separated.

We will offer two dedicated sessions for supporters on December 5, 2026, and January 7, 2027. Supporters are welcome to attend these designated sessions (Max. 2 supporters per student).

If you were admitted for the Fall 2026 term and did not enroll, please contact us at orientation@uhd.edu for your next steps.
You will be required to complete a new admissions application.

Registration for New Student Orientation will open on October 19. Once admitted, you will receive an invite to sign up.

New Student Orientation programming consists of an optional one-day experience for incoming students where you'll begin your transition to UHD and become acclimated to campus. During orientation, you will meet with an advisor, register for classes, learn about campus life, meet other Gators and connect with the UHD community.

Orientation Fees and Refunds

As part of the orientation experience, there is a one-time orientation fee of $45. This fee helps cover the cost of various orientation activities, materials, meals, and events designed to ensure a smooth transition to university life. All orientation fees for students are non-refundable. The orientation fee will be added to your tuition and fee statement.

If you have questions about New Student Orientation, contact us at orientation@uhd.edu. Please include your Student ID Number.
