Apply for Services

According to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a disability is a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities, such as caring for one's self, performing manual tasks, walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, breathing, learning and working. In order to receive assistance from the Accessible Education Center, the student must have a documented disability.

Students can apply for services with the Accessible Education Center by following the process below. Please be prepared to upload documentation related to your diagnosis, impairment, or disability. Please view the Documentation Guidelines before getting started.

Application Process with the Accessible Education Center:

Step 1: You must be enrolled and registered for classes at the University of Houston-Downtown.

Step 2: Apply for Services online

Step 3: Attach your required documentation to your application. View Documentation Guidelines

Step 4: Your Application and Documentation will be reviewed by the AEC. Once reviewed, we will email you an invitation to participate in an intake meeting. This email will go to your gator email, so please ensure you are checking it at least once a day.

Step 5: Attend your intake meeting.

What to expect during your Intake Meeting

The intake meeting is an opportunity for an AEC staff member to learn more about your

diagnosis from your point of view. This meeting can either be held in person at the AEC or online via Zoom. During this meeting, please be prepared to share more about your diagnosis, symptoms, and any barriers or challenges you may experience. Based on how your impairment substantially limits you, we will partner with you to develop reasonable accommodations to support you here at UHD.
